History and achievements

 

1971-74: Autocross, Rallycross, Hill Climbs, Sprints and Rallies.

1976: Scottish Rally Championship, 1st in class (group A). Class winner International Scottish Rally.

1978: Scottish Hillclimb Championship, 6 1st places and 4 2nd places. Scottish Road Car Champion.

1979-85: Production Saloon Car Championship. 16 wins, 17 second places and 14 third place finishes in mostly Vauxhalls and Opel Monzas

1986-88: Competed in the British Thunder Saloon Car Championship with the ex Brock Holden (Vauxhall Senator V8) and later Vauxhall Carlton V8s. A very successful period with championship wins in 1986 and 1988. More details and images here

 

 

 

1989-99: BRITISH TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP. Twice Champion. 208 Touring Car Races and 98 podium finishes.

1989: BTCC with Vauxhall Astra - 11 class wins from 13 starts - 1st in Championship.

 

 

1990: BTCC with Vauxhall Cavalier - 5th in Championship.

1991: BTCC with Vauxhall Cavalier - 3  wins - 2nd in Championship.

1992: BTCC with Vauxhall Cavalier - 3  wins - 3rd in Championship. End of season Toca Shootout winner.

1993: BTCC with Vauxhall Cavalier - 1 win - 4th in Championship. Tooheys Bathurst 1000. Co-driver to Peter Brock in Mobil Holden Commodore VP (suffered a major propshaft separation part way through the race but still finished 17th).

1994: BTCC with Vauxhall Cavalier - 2 wins - 4th in Championship.

1995: BTCC with Vauxhall Cavalier - 6 wins - 1st in Championship. Bathurst 1000. Co-driver to Tony Scott in Privateer Pinnacle Holden Commodore VR. Qualified 13th on grid and finished 6th overall which remains the best privateer finish at Bathurst to date (as of 2003).

1996: BTCC with the new Vauxhall Vectra - 8th in Championship. Bathurst 1000 - Co-driver to Mark Skaife in Fred Gibson Sega Holden Commodore VR. Finished 7th after problematic race having qualified in 9th place.

1997: BTCC with Vauxhall Vectra - 12th in Championship. AMP Bathurst 1000 for Super Touring cars. Drove a Holden badged Vauxhall Sport Triple Eight Vectra  with James Kaye. Qualified in 7th and the car was retired on lap 33 with a broken suspension upright.

1998: BTCC with Vauxhall Vectra - 2 wins - 8th in Championship. AMP Bathurst 1000 for Super Touring cars - Drove a Vauxhall/Holden Triple Eight Vectra with Derek Warwick. Qualified in 5th  and finished 5th.

1999: BTCC with Vauxhall Vectra - 10th in Championship. November run FAI Bathurst 1000 for V8 Supercars (due to Bob Jane event in early October for Super Tourers)- Drove with Cameron McLean in an ageing Greenfield Mowers sponsored Ford Falcon EL. Qualified 15th and ran well until front upright broke on lap 139.

2000: British GT Series in Chamberlain Scott International sponsored Dodge Viper GTSR. Qualified 6th and had a 3rd place finish at Silverstone with Dave Clark in British GT race. Some Porsch 911 GT3 races. Competed in the Ozemail Queensland 500 for V8 Supercars with Rodney Forbes in the Wynns racing Holden Commodore VT, qualifying 16th, finishing in 14th position. FAI 1000 at Mt Panorama on November 19th, resulted in retirement on lap 79 in the Wynns car after qualifying 22nd.

 

 

2001: Queensland 500 Ipswich, qualified 20th with Brad Jones and retired on lap 95. Bathurst 1000 in an Ozemail Ford Falcon AU with Brad Jones. Qualified 22nd and finished 2nd only 2 seconds behind the factory HRT Commodore of Skaife and Longhurst. Ascar inaugural demonstration race winner.

2002: Contested VIP Petfoods Queensland 500 at Ipswich, qualifying 24th and finishing 17th with Tim Leahey in an Ozemail Ford Falcon AU. Bathurst Bob Jane T-Mart 1000 with Tim again in the Falcon, qualifying 17th and finishing in 19th.

2003: Betta Electrical Sandown 500 in the Ozemail Falcon BA with Andrew Jones. Qualified 19th and finished 20th. Bob Jane T-Mart Bathurst 1000, Qualified 19th again and finished a creditable 9th. Third place at the Doune hill climb in a Mini Cooper.

 

 

2004: Betta Electrical Sandown 500 and Mount Panorama 1000k with Andy Jones No.21 Ozemail Falcon. 2 DNFs due to mechanical failure at Sandown and the now infamous collision with Jason Plato at Bathurst.

Porsche Carrera Cup at Knockhill, 6th.

BTCC Masters, 6th position.
