March
2013: John Cleland to compete in historic super touring car series.
John has acquired his
1997 BTCC championship contending Vauxhall Vectra and will compete in the
2013 HSCC Super Touring Car Trophy. The first Triple 888 Engineering built Vectra super tourer bearing the chassis number V97-001 will once again be raced by Cleland almost 16 years after it first took to the track at John’s home circuit of Knockhill. John hopes to compete in 2 rounds of the HSCC Super Touring Car
Trophy at Brands Hatch and Oulton
Park.
“I hope the series gets bigger and turns into a major event in future years… I’m sure it will. My plan is to race it and involve my sons Niki and Jamie in some of the drives. "Should be a bit of fun !! Good job I didn’t throw out the overalls from that year !!!”

July 2008: 95 Cavalier for Goodwood.
John Cleland will be reunited with his 1995 BTCC Championship winning Cavalier at the Goodwood Festival of Speed over the July 12th & 13th, 2008 weekend. The Cavalier has been seen around UK circuits in the past few years and is always a crowd pleaser due to it's racing pedigree. John says of his trip down memory lane "it should be fun." Also expected to appear at the Festival in vehicles of interest are Andy Rouse, Frank Biela, Anthony Reid, Steve Soper and Win Percy among many others.
Here's a clue to how the weekend went... I'm told it was James Thompson's fault; something about left foot braking and pedal boxes... sounds like an excuse to me!

March 30th 2008, David Leslie dies in air crash: We were sad to learn of the death of David Leslie and Richard Lloyd in an aircraft accident near Farnborough in Kent. A total of 5 people were killed as their light aircraft crashed after what is believed to have been engine failure.
John had this to say about his former BTCC rival and fellow Scot: "The David Leslie accident is a terrible loss to the UK motorsport world and all those whom he helped in their early careers will miss him greatly. His passion for the sport regardless of whether it was International or at club level was second to none and his commitment to putting something back into the sport
that gave him a living for many years was a credit to him and his
father.

2006: Rumours regarding John's possible involvement in the Snetterton 24 hour 2CV meeting are unfortunately unfounded. John had been invited to take part in this serious/fun annual event with sons Jamie and Niki but prior commitments have unfortunately scuppered these plans. John's only semi firm appearance so far this year will be at Knockhill on October 8th in Jamie's Scottish Mini Cooper Challenge car, a two driver end of season special.
John's regular appearances at Sandown and Bathurst in the Australian V8 Supercars also look in doubt this year but watch this space for any news as it breaks.
